Kenneth “Ken” Wallace
Jul 11, 1932 - Feb 02, 2022
Lifelong resident of Amberg, Wisconsin, died early Wednesday, February 2, 2022, in Marquette, Michigan. Ken was born July 11, 1932, in Amberg, Wisconsin, the son of George William Wallace and Ruth Mildred Wallace nee Kidder. The George Wallace family lived on the corner of Barker Road and Wontor Road where Ken attended Barker Elementary School. After graduating from Amberg High School, Ken proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Oriskany on the Pacific Ocean.
While serving in the Navy, Ken began corresponding with Rose Alyce Paskey, the daughter of his father’s friend George Paskey. Eventually meeting after he left the Navy, Ken and Rose married November 10, 1956, in Amberg, Wisconsin.
Ken is survived by his wife, Rose; three sons, Michael (Paula) Wallace of Bloomington, IL, Casey (Teresa) Wallace of Wausaukee, Wesley (Holly) Wallace of Amberg; nine grandchildren, Stuart (Taylor) Wallace, Peter Wallace, Jeremy Wallace, Lonnie (Sam) Bamberg, Nathan (Marymargaret) McColligan, Kyle (Kristine) Wallace, Caitlin (Matthew) Bergeron, Sawyer Wallace, Landen Wallace; ten great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, James Fronsoe.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Andy Wallace; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter & Evelyn Wallace; one sister, Heraldine Fronsoe (nee Wallace); two sisters and brothers-in-law, Arlene (Herbert) Barstow (nee Ziehm), Edith (Toyville) Anderson (nee Ziehm). Ken was also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and good friends.
As you travel the north and south of Amberg, you see Ken’s work in the business signs, truck lettering, and even Mailboxes that he painted as owner of Signs by Wallace. Fields of Christmas trees dot the landscape and residents from all across Wisconsin, the UP of Michigan, and even from Illinois came to Ken and Rose’s home to find the perfect Christmas tree at Trees by Wallace.
When not in his shop painting as sign or in his fields shearing trees, you could find Ken in his boat on Lake Gogebic, Michigamme Reservoir, or the Chalk Hills Reservoirs “drowning worms”. He and Rose enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Mexico in their camper, fishing in the Gulf of Mexico in Florida, visiting friends in Arizona, and stopping along the way for fresh strawberry shortcake. Ken’s love of fishing, joy of camping, and traveling are passed on to his sons and their families.
Ken was a member of the American Legion and the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association. He was a past member of the Amberg Township Board.
Visitation is Saturday, February 5, from 1-3pm at the Amberg Community Center. A remembrance service will immediately follow with Ken’s favorite “coffee and biscuits” after. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, plant 1or 1000 trees.
