Kenneth “Ken” Mattison Sr.

age 87, originally of Amberg, passed away Monday June 26, 2023, at UP Health System-Marquette. He was born in Amberg on November 24, 1935; son of the late Matthew and Ruth (Port) Mattison. Ken proudly joined the Marine Corp before graduation and later earned his GED. He married Margaret A. Downing on April 8, 1961 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. He joined the Marinette Police Department at age 26. He was 2nd in command and later became a Deputy with the Sheriff’s office. He worked in law enforcement for a majority of his life. Ken served as Marinette County Coroner for 16 years while owning/operating Mattison Insurance Agency in Amberg and Marinette. He was also chairman of the Republican Party, President of Wausaukee Housing Corp., was on the Board of Lake Lundgren Bible Camp, was a member of Marinette Masonic Lodge and Elks Club, and was a founder of Interfaith Bible Fellowship Church in Amberg where he also served on the board. His love of snowmobiles was expressed in owning a snowmobile sales shop in Amberg and he also raced and won many trophies/awards.

Ken loved his family more than life and fought hard to live every moment possible with them. He was a true warrior and left an amazing legacy. He is survived by his two children: Kenneth Mattison Jr. of Neenah and Colleen Mattison of Amberg; 6 grandchildren: Mitchell (Jenny) Grube, Mathew (Cara) Grube, Brittany (Jay) Servis, Aaron (Sascha) McGowan, Cody (Kelsey) Mattison and Hunter Mattison; 6 great grandchildren: Allison, Taylor, Emily, Ben, Aniston and Iris; brother, Matt Mattison; 2 daughters-in-law: Lisa Mattison and Julie Mattison. He is further survived by numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; son, Bruce; his parents, in-laws and 5 other siblings.

Visitation will be held at Amberg Community Center on Wednesday July 5, 2023, from 9:30 am until 11:30 am. Ken Jones will be officiating the funeral at 11:30 am with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be in the Amberg Cemetery with full military honors accorded by Amberg American Legion Post #428.

In lieu of flowers, there will be a memorial fund established for Lake Lundgren Bible Camp in his honor.
