Jerry “Jerry the Barber” Kapalczynski

Jul 28, 1935 - Aug 05, 2023

age 88, of Athelstane, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 5, 2023. He was born in Milwaukee on July 28, 1935; son of the late John and Adeline (Kiewig) Kapalczynski. Jerry met his sweetheart, Clara Tiemann, at Bert Phillips Ballroom on Thanksgiving 1955 and was united in marriage on May 5, 1956, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

Jerry graduated from Marquette High School in 1954 and followed that with barber school. He started his barbering career with his dad at Kapal’s Barbershop in Milwaukee and opened his own in 1961. In 1973 he relocated to Crivitz with his family and never looked back. For the next 44 years he cut hair as “Jerry the Barber” in Crivitz, finally retiring in 2020; a career spanning 66 years. Throughout his life, Jerry loved golfing, bowling, fishing and anything outdoors. When he stopped raising animals, his energy went to cutting wood and tending to his garden. He had strong Christian faith and his family was his greatest treasure. A people person, that once you were gifted with his friendship, you had unwavering devotion and support. He truly enjoyed all the friendships he made during his lifetime.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Clara; six children: Dianne (Ron) Kouski, Lorie (Rich) Baranek, Chris (Dale) Nodolf, RoxAnne (Mike) Cavallaro, Vance (Deb) Kapalczynski, and Valerie Gardner; grandchildren: Jeremy (Stephanie), Kyle (Kendra) Kouski and Ashley (Thad) Wojcik, Sarah (Bart) Kostreva, Bryan (Maria) and Brad (Rose) Baranek, Amanda (Sam) Zipperer and Katie (Tim) Wautlet-Bredrup, Brooke (Eric) Piland and McKinnely (Sebastien) Benoit, Makayla and Zachary Kapalczynski, Robert (Kelly) Hoehn, Mathew (Kelsey) Parkin, Justin Gardner and many great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Jack (special friend Karen) Kapalczynski, Larry (Reesa) Kapalczynski, Nancy Dellis and Betty Tiemann; and sister-in-law, Judy Kapalczynski.

He was preceded in death by his siblings and in-laws: Laura (Mike) Skemp, Rich (Barb) Kapal, Butch Kapalczynski and Art (Judy) Kapalczynski; brother-in-laws: George Dellis and John Tiemann; sister-in-law, Judy Kapalczynski; and granddaughter, Amy Workman.

A special thanks to Sarah and all the nurses who cared for us at Unity hospice.

I grew up with the family on North 35th Street. He was like a brother to me. I will never forget that.

I am the daughter of Tom & Shirley Klemens. My parents were friends of the Kapalczynski family for the many years. My dad & Jerry bowled together for many years. My brothers, Jeff & Chris will never forget the fun vacation times we spent at your lake property in Crivitz. Remember the time we got my dad to try barefoot skiing? Jerry and Clara, thank you for your many years of friendship and hospitality. Jerry the Barber will never be forgotten. Hugs and condolences to the family.
