Carey L. Hirte

Jun 04, 1969 - Jan 01, 2023

Age 53, of Pembine, died unexpectedly at home from natural causes on Sunday January 1, 2023. He was born in Iron Mountain on June 4, 1969; son of Richard and Margaret (Anderson) Hirte. Carey graduated from Pembine High School in 1987 and attended Mount Scenario College in Ladysmith where he played basketball. On July 22, 1989, he was united in marriage to his wife Melissa. Carey worked as a Niagara police officer for a short while, as well as at Precision Lumber and Grede Foundry. He was a past member of the Marinette County Sheriff’s Auxiliary and the Pembine Rescue Squad. Carey had a true passion for bird hunting, especially for woodcock, or as he called them “Wisconsin Timberdoodles.” He loved to write and had a piece published in Gun Dog Magazine. Alongside his bird dogs, he appeared on the shows “Arrow Affliction” and “World of Beretta”. His only passion larger than hunting was being “Papa” to his grandchildren.

Carey is survived by his loving wife, Melissa; three children: Brittani Smith, Austin (Ashley) Hirte, and Mackenna Hirte; six grandchildren: Aspen, Everlee, Charlie Smith, Michael, Brandon, Noah Hirte and one on the way; parents: Dick and Margaret; four brothers: Tom (Tabitha), Clinton, Robin, and Val (Carolee). He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Carey’s family will receive friends on Saturday January 7, 2023, at Northwoods Chapel in Pembine from 9am until time of his Memorial Service at 12pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
