Audrey Joyce Engelmann

Nov 18, 1937 - Jan 10, 2024

of Wausaukee entered into eternal rest on January 10th, 2024 after a long battle with kidney disease. Audrey was born in Chicago, IL on Nov 18th, 1937 to the late Frank and Irene (Guza) Gajewski. On Sept 28th, 1957 she married Richard Engelmann also of Chicago. In the summer of 1975, Audrey and Dick packed up their 3 youngest children and moved to the farm in Wausaukee, which Dick inherited from his mother, Alberta. Together they ran Engelmann Family Foods for almost 10 years. Dick preceded Audrey in death on May 29th 1991.

Audrey was always such a hard-worker! She worked at Smith’s Grocery Store in Wausaukee for almost 30 years! The last 10 years there she also worked at the McDonald’s in Crivitz. Once she ‘retired’ from Smith’s and McDonald’s she worked at the Evergreen Plaza meal site for 3 years before her kidney cancer forced her into full retirement at the age of 82 years old! It wasn’t always work and no play. Audrey loved being a part of the Wausaukee Travel Club and took trips all over the US and even one to Italy to see the pope. She enjoyed traveling back to Chicago to visit family or different parts of WI to visit her grandchildren.

Audrey was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always supported her grand and great-grand kids in all their different sports and activities. She never drove by a garage sale without stopping. She was always up for a concert or a trip to the amusement park. Audrey never felt her age and always hated being ‘old’. If her family had their way, they would have kept her around another 86 years. But just like in life, her death was on HER terms.

Audrey leaves behind her 4 children, Richard (Barbara) Engelmann of IL, Wayne Engelmann of Amberg, Jeff (Judy) Engelmann of Wausaukee, and Judy Gunderman of Peshtigo. 7 grandchildren, Heather Kowalewski, Rebecca (Dan) Garcia, Ryan (Christine) Haulotte, Eric (Josemary) Haulotte, Angie (Jeremy) Engelmann, Tracy (Matt) LaCanne, Michael (Emily) Engelmann and 15 great-grand children. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and special friend, Walter Chodacki.

Visitation will be held on Saturday January 20, 2024, at Roubal Funeral Home from 9am until the time of her funeral service at 11am. Father David Schmidt will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee, this spring.
The family would like to send a special thank you to DaVita Dialysis clinic who took such great care of Audrey over the past two years. Also, thanks to Unity Hospice and Renaissance Assisted Living for all their great care.

Roubal Funeral Home of Wausaukee is assisting Audrey’s family arrangements.

Happy Journey home Audrey, your our beloved 1st cousin and my God Mother. We will treasure the times we spent with you and especially the trip to Italy. That was a magical moment when the rain clouds parted and the sun came out just when Pope John Paul II entered into the Vatican square. Your facial expression of awe and wonderment was priceless. We will miss your youthfulness and wonderment. Till we meet again, keep our mom in line and the rest of the aunts.

Ryan, Christine Haulotte and Family

We love and will miss you grandma.
