Amie “Bud” James La Coy Jr.
Dec 02, 1941 - Feb 07, 2024
age 82, of Wausaukee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was born in Milwaukee on December 2, 1941: son of the late Amie and Gladys (Gensch) La Coy. Bud graduated Wausaukee High School. He married his childhood friend and sweetheart, Claudia (Beach) and began a family. He worked as an electrician, supporting his family, while he attended Northern Michigan University where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Economics. Bud was a teacher at heart. He taught junior high and high school for over 30 years. He enjoyed finding alternative ways for all of his students to learn and he was truly proud of their achievements. He strived for his students to succeed in all aspects of their life. He never judged and always found commonality with everyone.
Bud was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for travel and adventure. This passion led him all over the world to seek new cultures and landscapes as well as new fishing spots. Throughout the years, Bud would grab his backpack and visit places such as New Zealand, Australia, Northwest Territories, and throughout Central America and Caribbean. Whether he was working toward his pilot’s license and doing fly-in fishing trips or scuba diving on the Barrier Reef, Bud was always busy and enjoying life and adventures all over the world. After retiring, Bud spent Summers on his boat in Homer Alaska, fishing Halibut and Salmon, often catching fish bigger than the charter boats. He enjoyed sharing these past times with many friends and family.
Throughout the years, Bud organized and collaborated with many Constitutionalists groups in Wisconsin and Michigan. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes on the Wisconsin Castle Doctrine Law and continued to ensure personal freedoms and God given rights were protected.
Above all else, Bud was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather and a loyal brother and friend. He often brought his children and grandchildren on his travels and enjoyed sharing his adventures and experiences with them. He loved family gathering and attended all school functions, games, and events. His greatest treasures were his family and making memories with them. Bud truly embraced life.
Bud is survived by his three daughters: Cheri (Dave) Freeland of Sturgis Michigan, Sondy (Rudi Hynek) La Coy of Manitowoc, and Nikki (Stu) Millan of Goodman; Grandchildren: Peter (Natasha) Tadisch, Daniel Tadisch, Jeremy (Celya) Tadisch, and Sierra Dettman; Great Grandchildren: Brady Tadisch, Chloe Tadisch, and Liam Tadisch; Sister, Sandra La Coy; Nephew, Collin Coffelt; and Niece, Michelle Coffelt. He was preceded in death by siblings: Michael “Mickey” La Coy and Sherry Coffelt.
