Raymond G. Engeldinger Sr.

Mar 04, 1939 - May 06, 2020

age 81, of Amberg, passed away Wed., May 6, at his favorite place to be, home. Ray was the 7th of 8 children, born to Ben and Nellie Engeldinger, on March 4, 1939 in Ashland, WI. He graduated from Glidden High School in 1957, spent 3 years stationed at Butzbach Germany, where he worked as an Artillery Surveyor. After the military, he moved to Milwaukee, where he met his wife of nearly 53 years, Nola Werner. They have 3 children Laura (Jim) Plautz (grandsons Jacob and Brian), Ray Jr (Tammi) (granddaughters Emma and Ellie), and Andy (Michelle) (granddaughters Hannah and Hattie). He worked for over 24 years with the Wausaukee School District, from which he retired in 2001. Raymond loved his family, be it immediate or extended, as much as they loved him. He especially enjoyed recounting stories of all his grandchildren, reminiscing and retelling childhood stories from the old northwoods, the logging camps, as well as his adventures with the military. He was well known for getting a head start on his tomato plants each spring, and the promise of fresh produce from the garden. A crossword puzzle enthusiast, a lover of lemon meringue pie, cribbage master, and POGO junkie, he loved the simple things in life. He rarely missed an evening of reading scripture, which undoubtedly shaped the life he led, and provided.

Ray is survived by his sister, Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Doris, Darold, Junior, Fern, Robert, and Darlean.
A special thanks to his nephew, Sean, sister-in-law Mary, and the entire Bright family for their selfless care and support. Ray will be deeply missed by his family.

Due to Safer at Home restrictions, a funeral service will be held privately for immediate family. Burial will be in the Amberg Cemetery.

Roubal Funeral Home of Wausaukee is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dear Engeldinger Family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss of Ray Sr. I have such fond memories of him. He was such a bright light at WHS and always had a kind word and had a great sense of humor. I know that my Dad also enjoyed his company. Prayers for you and your family.

Robert Cavanaugh

God bless Ray, a long time employee of the Wausaukee School district. At times it was a near impossible job for the custodial staff to take care of the aging schools we had at the time but Ray and the others managed without complaining. All the best to all of his family members.

Good Morning Ray: I am sorry for the loss of your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and family.

I will miss the phone conversations with Uncle Ray. They were filled with humor, reminisces and sometimes a "tall" tale. He brought much joy and laughter, as well as kindness. He never failed to remind me of the time we were playing horseshoes and I hit him in the head with my toss and knocked him to the ground - game over. My heartfelt sympathy to Nola and the family. His memory will be with us always. Niece, Elaine

Uncle Ray was a special person. I will miss him and our phone conversations, as they were always filled with laughter, reminiscences and sometimes a few "tall" tales. He never let me forget that once playing horseshoes, I hit him in the forehead and knocked him to the ground. Game over. My love and sympathy to Nola and the children that he so loved. It's comforting to know we will meet again in Heaven.

I dearly loved Uncle Raymond. He was our bus driver when we lived in Northern WI. It was right after he came home from the military. I thought he was the most handsome man. He would always call us by name when we got on the bus. I remember telling the kids on the bus “he’s my Uncle”!!!! He always checked in our family to make sure we were okay. We will miss that. Blessings to you all. Sandy

I got to spend a summer with Uncle Ray as a pre teen. I worked in the woods with him that summer. It was the best summer of my childhood. I have carried those memories thru out my adulthood. There is no doubt he is with god and cracking some jokes with all that has passed before him.

Growing up near Peeksville Raymond was like an older brother to me rather than an uncle. We fished together and deer hunted. We even went to the same schools. When i was 16 I spent the summer with Raymond and Grandpa in a logging camp near Saxon Wisconsin. We had a great time exploring the area all around Saxon. We also had to take Grandpa to town at least once a week to get medicine at the local bar. Uncle Ray will be missed by all. His humor and wonderful outlook on life lifted the spirits of all. I will miss him as will all but I know that heaven will be more wonderful because he is there.

To our sweet northern family, I am so sorry for your loss of such a kind, loving, accepting and respectful husband, brother, and father. I too believe he and Bob and the rest of the siblings are in heaven telling all the stories over again and laughing till they cry. Sending all my hugs and love. Know that your Texas family is thinking of you and praying for you hoping it helps to soothe some of your pain. Love you much, Dawn Engeldinger

Those we love don’t go away, they walk besides us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved and so missed. We keep the love and memories alive to remind us he is still around.
