Leslie “Les” Koster

Nov 18, 1942 - Feb 07, 2022

79, of Amberg, died peacefully at home on February 7, 2022. He was born in Iron Mountain, MI on November 18, 1942; son of the late Howard and Kathryn (White) Koster. Les graduated from Amberg High School in 1960 and was the last class to graduate from there. He was united in marriage to the former Rosemary McCorkle on October 6, 1962, at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine.

After their marriage, Les and Rose made their home in Amberg where they raised their family. At a young age, Les gained an apprenticeship in the painters union and began working as a professional painter before starting his business as a painting and drywall contractor. Les forged many friendships in his time as a contractor and became well-known. Whether it be on one of his job sites, at an area restaurant, or with family and friends, he always enjoyed the conversation and camaraderie of the people around him. Les never missed a sporting event involving his children or grandchildren and still attended local high school events even when his children and grandchildren were no longer involved. He always cheered for the Wausaukee Rangers along with the Badgers, Brewers, and Packers.

Les had a great appreciation for the outdoors and instilled that in his family. He loved the time with his family and friends, especially trips to his camp in the U.P. He was an avid hunter and bagged many big bucks in his lifetime. He was an excellent shot with his 30-30 peep sight rifle, which earned him the nickname “deer slayer” by his hunting partners.

Above all, was his love for the companionship of his dogs. He was known for driving around town and letting his dogs bark out the windows of his truck. He will certainly be missed by his family, friends, and his last living dog, Merry.

Les is survived by his two children: Russell (Kathryn) Koster and Laura (Jay) Lesperance; four grandchildren: Kandace (Brian) Larsen, Kasey (Kyle Kelly) Koster, Brooke (Robert McCracken) Lesperance, and Kyle Lesperance; and his brother, Ron (Michele) Koster, and sister, Carol (Olen) Ridling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; and two brothers Russell and Harry.

Memorial Gathering is from 10am until his Celebration of Life service at 12pm on Wednesday February 16, 2022, at Roubal Funeral Home.
