Judith Ann Wagner
age 71, was peacefully and comfortably called Home to heaven on February 15, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family. Judy was born on October 28, 1947 in Port Washington Wisconsin, daughter of Albert and Viola (Luelloff) Heimerl.
Judy graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee with a degree in English and received her Master’s Degree from UW-Stout. She married Robert Wagner on August 23, 1969 at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Wauwatosa. That same year, the couple moved to northern Wisconsin to build their home together on the Pike River in Amberg, which was a special place for them to share their love of white-water canoeing.
Judy was very active in the community, serving on the Marinette County Board as a representative for the towns of Amberg, Athelstane, and Silver Cliff and as Chairman of Parks and Forestry Committee. She also served on the Wausaukee Rescue Squad as an EMT and worked as the office manager for Dr. Lee’s medical practice in Wausaukee. Judy also commuted to Green Bay and back every day for 25 years while she taught medical administration classes at NWTC.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Judy enjoyed canoeing, sailing, bicycling, skiing, hiking, and camping. She also loved gardening and was a member of several botanical gardens. She was a talented wood carver who made beautiful Christmas ornaments every year for her family. A foodie at heart, Judy travelled all over the world to experience different cultures and learn new techniques in the kitchen. She was always up for a game of Scrabble.
Judy was a pillar of the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine, Wisconsin. She served on the church council and edited the church newsletter for over 20 years. She also enjoyed making quilts with her friends for the Lutheran World Relief. Always ready to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty to help others, Judy also spent many volunteer hours building the cabins at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp and rebuilding homes in the South after Hurricane Katrina.
Judy’s family will remember her as a fiercely devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who was never afraid to follow her dreams. She is survived by her loving husband Robert; her children Christopher (Erin) Wagner of Green Bay, Jeremy (Heidi) Wagner of Dale, Amanda (Jason) Massopust of Waterford; her seven grandchildren Madison (13), Natalie (12), Gabrielle (10), Nathan (9), Sam (8), Bentley (8), Isaac (8); her brother Eugene (Marge) Heimerl and brother-in-law William (Dodie) Wagner.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Unity Hospice in De Pere, Wisconsin for their care and compassion during Judy’s last days. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine, Wisconsin on Saturday, February 23 at 12 p.m. (noon). Visitation will be from 10am until the time of service at church. Memorial contributions will be split between the Grace Lutheran Church Landscaping Fund and Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp.
