Dale Roger Fick

Jul 21, 1943 - Jan 09, 2023

of Amberg, passed away on January 9, 2023 at Aurora Medical Center- Bay Area at the age of 79. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on July 21, 1943 to the late Charles A. and Ruth Fick. On June 2, 1969 he married Gail Sacotte of Pembine.

At the age of 3 his family moved to a farm west of Amberg but he would tell anyone who asked that he “was born and raised in Amberg”. He attended Amberg grade and high school. After the Amberg School was closed he spent his senior year and graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1961. He later served for nineteen years on the Wausaukee School District Board. Right out of high school he hooked up with a tower crew that traveled around the country constructing TV towers and was a part of the crew that built what was, until then, the tallest tower in North America. It was over a quarter mile high….and yes he worked on it all the way to the top.

He served, proudly, in the United States army and served for over a year in Viet Nam. He was a member of the Mullany-McTrusty Legion Post #428 in Amberg and also a member of the VFW.Upon returning after military service he joined his father as a building contractor at Chas A. Fick & Sons. After his dad’s retirement he founded and operated Ficks-It Construction until his retirement well past his 70th birthday.

Dale had a magnetic personality and easily drew a crowd wherever he went. The road leading into and out of his hunting shack starting a week before and including all of deer season sometimes looked like a major highway. The same was true of any picnic or party at Dale’s Pond where the sign says to “Beware of Kids and Frogs”. Young people and especially little kids always melted his heart. He was a good sized guy physically, could be intimidating but was actually a real softie. If anyone in the family, any of his friends, especially the elderly needed help the answer was “call Dale”, whom one nephew always referred to as the “wise one”. Each of his five siblings lives in a house that Dale either built, remodeled or in some way reflects his carpentry and masonry skills. He thoroughly enjoyed time with family, friends, cribbage, hunting, and was a pretty good golfer which he only quit playing after his back issues forced him to give it up. In his leisure he did a lot of reading and had a keen interest in a wide range of topics and subjects.

He is survived by his wife, Gail, daughter, Robin (Bill) Freeman, Son, Dale “Skutter” (Debbie) Fick, grandchildren, Bethanie Swift, Carrie Brake, Shanel Seidel, Chas Uffleman, Gunther Fick and seven great grandchildren (Bryce, Maddy, Harper, Elsie, Ryker, Beau, and Ember). He is further survived by brothers, Chuck (Carol) Fick, Paul (the late Laurie) Fick Steven (Vicki) Fick, and sisters, Joan (the late David) McTrusty, Marilyn (Red) Klingman, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation for Dale will take place Saturday, January 14th at the Roubal Funeral Home, 513 1st Street in Wausaukee from 10:00am until 1pm when the Amberg Legion Post #428 will accord military honors followed by Dale’s funeral service. Private family burial will be in the Amberg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pastor Fred’s Food Pantry and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

I want to send my deepest condolences & prayers to my dear friends Vicki & Steve on the loss of your brother.

Joan Carter, Kimberly Carter and Matt Dufek

He was our neighbor and our friend. He loved Kim’s desserts and told her she can drop off anything for him to taste test. Joan trusted him like family and knew whatever we needed, he was only a phone call away. He was the last of his kind, a true Amberg patriot and wise elder.
